Long time no see. You still rockin' the beard or is my memory defunct?

So guys, I know you probably shouldn't say this on Newgrounds due to ensuing easy jokes, but I've had Coxsackie since the Friday before last Friday. I was out of work all last week and stayed home accomplishing nothing, lying around in intense pain, unable to eat or drink anything without pain.

I had to go back to work today in order to pay dem bills, and when I got home (like 5 minutes after being home) the swelling in my front upper gums reversed out of nowhere. IT'S GOING AWAY! PRAISE GOD!

So how did everyone get into producing?

I'll be honest, I heard Paragonx9 when I was about 13 and decided, wow I'm going to be just like that person and do this shit!

Needless to say, I never did get nearly as good. But I still enjoy it. Would any one mind listening to a song I'm working on, and maybe give some advice on things I could do with it? Let me know?

What happened to the forums? I see quite a few threads of people advertising their music and what-not? I always remember this place being pretty strict about rules. Is NG falling apart? That would be a shame. I always did like this site a lot for it's ability to share and communicate easily.

At 14 or so I like a now-obscure genre mostly popular in Belgium and the Netherlands called "Jumpstyle" and I wanted to try my hand at it. Tried the FL6 demo and made something very shitty, then abandoned that idea for a long while.

When I was 17 I got into the crappy browser-based Dance Dance Revolution clone "Flash Flash Revolution", where I like the music of @cornandbeans and @b0unc3. I googled cornandbeans so I could listen to his music elsewhere (you know, not whilst smashing arrows) and found out that Newgrounds has an Audio Portal. I read on cnb's myspace that he used Reason and FL to produce, so I gave Reason a whirl and decided to submit it here. A couple of months later, after making a few friends on here and receiving tips, I switched back to FL and the rest is history.

As a side note it's worth noting I met my fiancee whom I've lived with for the last ~4 years on here, so that is swell.

A while ago there was a rule change that people could post a single thread around their own music, much like on the art forum before the art portal was here. I'm not sure if people still do their art threads on there, I don't really visited that forum.

Personally I'm a ghost and occasionally I'll be reminded of this place and come lurk... see what you guys are jammin' about. Seems like social media is the "normal" way to have an internet presence... forums are not so much anymore.

If anyone cares I'm totally playing drums all the time and preparing my separate projects for getting on stage... got a show coming up on the 17th and I already performed one a while ago. Hopefully all this turns out and people come and listen :)

Your music has come a long way! I still jam to your stuff. I Thank You is probably my favorite of your work, so far.

Sometime this weekend I will do that. I don't have FL, or any of my projects at my home. I produce on a friends computer when he falls asleep when I stay over. Watching someone make a song that knows less than half of what he is doing is quite boring, no?

Are you still making music and posting it up? I haven't heard anything new by you since I downloaded your album when you first became Pervok. You're still Zenon to me, man...

Congrats!!!!

So today... I was loading a trailer at work and my left ear bud went out... SUPER PISSED about it.... This is a common problem for me. I was curious, do you think it is because I blew the speaker in the bud or perhaps my ipod is ruining them? I've done this to 3 pairs of headphones in the last year...

Sure!

Back in 2008, a group of somewhat newbie producers including myself and my fiancee were disgruntled by, imagine this, "zero bombers" on the audio portal. We formed a little club called "TEH 5TEAM!!1one" or something like that. Our stated aim was to vote 5 on things that had an undeserved low score. This was of course very naive, as it's just creates the same problem.

We had maybe 30 people, and in the end just ended up upvoting each other's music. This was when msn/windows live messenger was still alive and kicking, so one day we had this giant group chat with almost everyone in the team. Lots of folks added one another to their contact lists. Two of those people who added one another were my fiancee and yours truly.

We later started a random bored private conversation and ended up rather liking each other. One thing led to another, and that summer I went to go visit her in England (being 17, I still lived with my mother in Belgium at that time). We had a great weekend, and went to visit each other a few times each year, maintaining a long distance relationship for 3 years and a bit.

At that point, in September 2011, I was done with school, and she just got into a university in England, so we decided that would be as good a time as any to move in together. I mailed all my stuff over and we moved into a tiny apartment. I then started jobseeking fulltime (for jobs in the electronics industry, mind you), but ended up finding a web development job (thanks to my failed theaudioportal.com project showing off what I could do). We've since moved twice, the rest is history.

And here I am, still on Newgrounds. :-P

Nothing is much different in FL 12 besides interface changes that either make or break your work flow,

I myself use FL 12 and I love the new changes, but it was after 2 weeks of getting used to it, do NOT update to the new version unless you have time to relearn stuff.

Hey Mich, I'm glad things are working out well for you, serious. Good vibes your way for continued success in that category of life.

So, anyways, guys... I've been getting really into the producer Zaytoven. I like his style as well as how he pushes himself in the hip hop industry. Now... I don't usually mess around with hip hop type tracks, but I'd like to take a stab at making some trap like songs.
Could you guys recommend any VST's or samples for this style. Just to kind of make it easier for you, I'll post a link of his work at the end of the post, although, I'm certain you've heard him if you listen to current music on most radio stations... but perhaps you don't.
I know Nexus is supposedly a good one. But I suppose I would have to acquire the Trap or Trap2 expansion, right? I just have the basic thing. Or am I overlooking what FL has to offer? I read something about using 808s, but I've never really heard any of the FL 808 make a hard impact like something Zay would use.

In other news, I might have a PC of my own this weekend. So music production should become more prevalent for me over the next few weeks, I am hoping. We'll see though. I could end up getting a poop computer that can't handle the project I make. But who knows, I had a fairly old computer in 2014 that ran it fairly good as long as I didn't use TOO much sytrus.
Yes... I have a limited supply of samples and VSTs. But that's okay. It gives me a chance to really tweak the things I have to use, right?

HAPPY FRIDAY. It's payday for me. Time for some relaxing activities while I enjoy my weekend. Sick of looking at boxes, haha.

Shit, almost forgot the link: Zaytown

What contest, if any should I enter?

I'm debating entering the Underdog Contest, but at the same time I'd like to challenge myself and enter the Audio Deathmatch this year since I've never entered that before. There is always hesitation with me entering that contest when I hear people cranking out entries with luscious gear that I (6 years later!) still can't afford.

Am I at the right fan level for the Underdog Contest?

That being said, I just started a new job and it's been going pretty well (management at a concert venue) but I have little info on my schedule as of yet.

As usual AP input would be appreciated!

Geez, the audio submissions for Robot Day are pretty sick this year! Really looking forward to the outcome of the competition!

At 7/10/15 04:38 PM, frootza wrote: What contest, if any should I enter?

They're basically the same, but the NGADM is more popular and thus could get you more exposure in general, while in the NGAUC you get to compete with audio artists of your level, meaning you have a bigger chance of getting further in the competition. You could at least try one of them for fun. :)

If this happened to any of my old laptops, I would probably be in an alternate dimension. That, or a wizard somehow repaired them with dark magic. Either way though, it would definitely be great.

Did anybody see the last Terminator, yet?
It happened that I saw it last Friday (funny coincidence with robot day). Despite it´s probably the worst movie I´ve ever saw at the cinema: The music was just painfully horrible. I wonder why they even pay the Hans Zimmer studios for such a $!"§$ instead of using stock music. I´m not very deep into doing epic music by myself but I know lots of people here on NG who would have done a much better job. It was really the worst soundtrack I heard since ages... I mean if the composer (whos name I already forgot) really just wants to use cliche 1-6 progressions (which I sometimes do, too, I have to regret) and standard contemporary orchestral FX, can´t he just show a bit of creativity or make it at least a bit of tasteful. I know Hollywood sounds have been uniformed within the last years but this was really just bad and set a new lower limit to cinematic music... I don´t know why I had to write this here and probably not everybody shares my oppinion but since I was so disappointed by the movie (a friend of mine fall asleep and we went out before the movie finished) I had to spread this here.

Back in Highschool we had a project to do that involved making a video on a given topic. We were divided into groups. Me an my group picked the music related topic, "music is a part of me" or something.

Given that everyone in my group was a useless slacker, myself included, I winged it on my own on the last day by filming the sky outside my window and narrating some bullshit about how music is really important in a awkward, low, barely audible voice.

It was soooo bad.
I only realized the gravity of the situation when the teacher announced we'd be viewing all the videos publicly in the projector room.

The horror.
